Research Day

Today we talked about our research and the different things we had gathered from home.

Emily – I completed a family tree for the Davidson family.  We asked granda and granny for information about our family and our home.  My house used to be a carpenter’s shop.

Abbie – I completed a family tree for the Morton’s and the Moffett’s.  We traced cousins, aunts and uncles.

Ethan G – My granda Joe had 15 siblings – 6 brothers and 9 sisters.  They lived in a house with 2 bedrooms, 1 kitchen and 1 bathroom!!

Bryony – My mum’s great granny lived to she was 97.  Her daughter, my mum’s granny, was nearly 101 when she died.  My family say I have her same sense of humour.

Luke M – Before our house was owned by us it was a hostel during WW2.  My great grandfather owned the hostel, everyone came to stay in it and they came from all over the world.  When my mum and dad were going to build a house they built it where the hostel was, as it had already fallen down, they build on the site.

Adam – My house is built in a field that was owned by my great granda.

Samuel – Rockdale House – this is a big house in Sandholes.  In olden days this house was owned by Captain Lowry.  This was the first house in Sandholes to have a toilet!! Captain Lowry owned a lot of land around Sandholes and people came to him to buy land.

Jake A – My house was built in 2002.  It is in Tullyhogue near the Tullyhogue Fort.

Bryony – Tullyhogue Fort – This is the place where the Kings of Ulster – the O’Neill Clan, had their coronation.  Parts of the coronation stone was used to build Desertcreat Church and that is where my dad is the minister!!
