Our connection was made using facetime and teacher Dearbhla made an effort to set the ipad in a good position for me to see the class while we discussed the travels and how the children traced me to Leipzig in Germany.

The clue for Leipzig was the famous musician and composer, Johann Sebastian Bach and Dearbhla found an extract of his music on her phone and played this to us all.
I asked the children about what makes someone famous? We had some great answers:
If you are footballer
A singer
A dancer
A boxer or
if you follow your dreams and do what you want to do!
I asked the children if they knew any famous people from Crossmaglen?
There was no shortage of answers…… look at this list of famous people!
Aaron Kernan – Champion footballer
Shane McKeever – World Champion dancer
Michael Hoy – famous builder
Kyle Gallagher – Champion footballer
Callum McCumiskey – Champion footballer
Jamie Clarke – Champion footballer
Stephen Kernan – Champion footballer
Brian’s Daddy
I was mightily impressed with all the famous people the children knew!
Back to the travelling and interpreting things to find me, I invited the childen to follow directions on a map of Leipzig that I posted them.
They had to try and find me exactly to the street I was staying! We took a trip across the city centre…….. using the facetime communication, I gave them direction ‘Turn left, keep going…”

The children then got busy interpreting my travels from Belfast to Dublin, Berlin and Leipzig into drawn maps of their own. They remembered that I had crossed the sea and that that there were different distances between Belfast and Dublin and Dublin and Berlin and their maps showed this. They even included whales in the sea that I crossed!
We were able to share these maps on facetime, but I also look forward to seeing them for real soon.

No converstation would be complete without a chat about the weather…..
I asked about the weather in Crossmaglen….. we compared GREY SKIES!!!!
I said I though perhaps their grey sky was nicer than my grey sky!
