Day 8 going the distance!

Our 8th session plan to explore DISTANCE – what we notice about things that are close to us and those things that are far away.

It was our plan to see how we could EYE UP objects or people at different distances, so the children worked in groups outside to observe their friends as they stood at various distances from them in the playground. The observers drew the shape of their friends and photographed them with an ipad.

I asked the children to take turns standing in the playground and drawing or recording what they saw with the ipad camera function.

When doing this, be careful to get the two children standing in the frame of the camera….

When drawing the children’s shape  the children tried to observe their SHAPE and create a sort of SILHOUETTE – a solid, filled in shape.

When the children returned to the classroom, they cut out their shapes, cutting carefully round the outer edge.

The last thing we talked about was what would these cut outs look like in Van Gogh’s WHEATFIELD scene?
