Diorama continued

In this session we continued to work on our Dioramas!

In my studio I continue to deconstruct the Willow Pattern to form an expanded diorama, I am fascinated how the scene changes as you move around the Diorama.

The children have created some amazing narratives – can’t wait to see how they look!

Dioramas

In the session this week we began to construct our dioramas. There are many different ideas shaping up and I look forward to the children developing their ideas.

In my studio I have begun to develop a diorama based upon the blue and white Willow Pattern plate and narrative. I will be deconstructing the image of the next few sessions through both 2D and 3D manipulation. You can see the influence of the artist Hokusai in the waves that I have begun to paint. In the images you will also see the initial development of the childrens’ work taken whilst we we were discussing the ideas over our virtual platform.

Miniature Place and Space – Dioramas

Today we spent a great session discussing and planning a new piece of work. First we saw many images of dioramas which fuelled much discussion between myself, the teacher and all the children. The first steps were to plan what Place we might create ‘in miniature’ there were many ideas and we will get to see these as the project develops.

The children are to bring in boxes for the next session.

Space and Place Recon(figured)

In the session this week we changed our material to clay. The next period of exploration will explore clay and the figure and its relationship to space and place. We began the session by examining Gormley’s Field – large scale installations that have been created form clay all around the world. within the studio I began by making ‘clay drawings’ which the children also did in the classroom. The next stage was to turn the drawings into sculpted clay figures – these will be fired in the kiln and then set in situations that investigate Place and Space.

Place

In the session this week we had a discussion about Place and what that could mean. Each pupil thought about a ‘place’ that was important to them and then translated the image with text into a textile work. These will be used to create a set of images based upon Place and Space in the landscape. In my studio I worked on a drawn and stitched text image which I then began to situate within my studio. The textile will also be performed in many locations and several images will be made.

Space

Space – we started the session by discussing Space and what the word could mean. There were some very good explanations from the children with reference to the word – these will be explored later in the project once we have created the necessary artwork.

In this session we worked with fabric and stitch to construct individual artwork that spelt out the word SPACE.
