Photograms

We spent some time looking at the class’s photograms. I uploaded them all so that we could share them online and each person talked through their work. We discovered new details n some of the pieces and some mysterious objects revealed their identity. The class were surprised that the experiment had been so successful. There were cries of “Oh, wow! That’s really clear!” when they saw some of the pieces.

They understood that the light was making things darker and that light had leaked in and around some of the objects in unexpected ways. It was suggested that we should do an experiment with sun cream on photo-sensitive paper to see if it blocks the light.

I love the composition of the photogram above. We spent time discussing composition. With good composition “everything is sitting in a really nice way.”

After looking at a few photograms we did an experiment with a glass of water, shining a light through it to see what colours could be found. Mrs Wilson allowed them to repeat the experiment with prisms to see what colours could be seen. Our whiteboard wasn’t functioning but the class discovered white light, pink, purple, blue, green, red and yellow light when they shone a torch through the prisms. They also went outside and photographed the results of shining a light using daylight. We talked about the spectrum and I explained that the photo paper was colour blind to red light.

The photogram above combines unexpected objects: I wonder if you can guess what they are….?

This is just a sample of the class’s work and the rest are on the class journal. They have added some really interesting comments and explanations.
