Rainbow jars

As a way of understanding the spectrum of light, we made rainbow jars using gels and jam jars. The challenge was to lay out the colours so as to create the effect of a rainbow and make sure that the colours appeared in order. The gels were quite tricky to work with and so the class finished these in an additional session. I really appreciated the time that Mrs Wilson has given the project, allowing sessions to influence other work in the classroom and spending time finishing work from sessions and making new experiments. It makes a real difference for the class and for me. The children also used the spare cuttings of gel to create beautiful coloured discs using a transparent gel to lay the colours on. There are lovely photos of this session on the class journal.
