Last day: real visit cyanotype experiments

While all the excitement was going on in the darkroom the class were also experimenting with cyanotypes. I showed them some of my experiments and explained that I had used ordinary paper coated with particular chemicals to create the cyanotype paper that they were going to use. The image of my great uncle led to a great conversation about war. Our first cyanotype experiment didn’t work. We had to leave it outside for ages and while the class were moving round it, someone accidentally kicked it and we had to start again. The nest experiment was left over breaktime and used polygonal shapes. Now that they understood what to do the class were off and running. The daisy is a detail from one of their first independent attempts. They were so impressed with the photogram of buttons that they made one with cyanotype paper.
