I had to laugh – I had so carefully carried and cupped the Lough Neagh sand ball from hand to hand like it were the very last egg from some almost extinct species. We were then to discover that this naturally–formed curiosity was going to refuse to be dismantled in class at all – well aside from the few grains scraped away by the edge of a persistent scissor blade!

I found myself lacking vision as to how this piece of compressed coal might be dismantled and translate as imagery upon the light sensitive paper – a galaxy later – and I am grateful for the privilege, yet again, of learning from young unfettered minds!
