Planning begins

week10Today we started to figure out how we might be able to put our work together in a book.  Some of the children thought that they might like to make the paper look old by staining it with a teabag. Others thought that they might like to use collage and stick images in. Someone else suggested a scroll format. There was even an idea about sewing the information onto a blanket like some people who made a quilt in Co. Tyrone.

The children were concerned about making mistakes and ruining their original work so we talked about photocopying/ scanning as a way of outputting the work and protecting their artwork. In the meantime they made folders for their images and loose pieces of work and put their names on them to keep them safe. We looked at ways of laying out text on a page and experimented with different methods of presenting the same information. Everyone tried different spacing and sizes of lettering. It took a long time to do.

By the end of the session the class had decided to make a book collectively -a “class book” and to make their own individual books that they can take home. We measured out the length of a scroll if everyone put 1 x A4 piece of work into it and it would be 9m long! I’m going to communicate with the class by e-mail while they get everything scanned and gathered and then we will make further decisions about content and format. Meanwhile I am waiting for the post and a whole lot of lovely images.
