Reviewing and repeating

This week we reviewed the images from last week’s work in a big group. It was really useful to be able to see what everyone had done and talk through ideas about how to make the images stronger. The class repeated elements of one of their photos and looked at different ways of posing, lighting, framing and positioning their subjects within the image. if you click on the gallery you will see the way the format changes from landscape in the first week to portrait this week for some of the subjects.

discussion about journal images

Through working on the images last week and this week, the class have now learned how to upload images from the digital cameras by themselves and they can share their images using application sharing as well. Mrs Wison borrowed extra laptops to speed up the process and it was incredible to be able to review work so quickly. We talked about focus and framing and point of view and visual clutter and colour. The children were also noticing things and people in the background of their photos and thinking of ways of drawing more attention to the subject. They have been planning their images and sketching compositions in order to communicate their ideas. There was so much passion in the room. The children did a photograph in pairs at the end without verbal communication and I am looking forward to seeing some more of that work really soon. The images in the gallery are  screengrabs of the children’s work using application sharing. It took them a lot of work to do the journal last week but they want to have another go this week so everyone is hoping to contribute their ideas again. I am looking forward to seeing it. The final excitement is that the children’s work from last year has appeared in publicity material for the Burnavon Arts Centre.
