Communication – letter to P2 from Ann

To P2,

First, apologies P2 I’ve had a few problems with my computer and am only putting up your audio entry for week 2 in the diary now.

Do you remember P2 when I was visiting you in the school for the for the first time and we decided to use the microphone and mini disc to record audio to put up in your diary that week ? You decided you would each like to say something. You thought it most important that everyone get the chance to say something and you didn’t mind if that meant there might be repeats. I thought this was a really exciting way to do things as I wouldn’t have thought of doing it this way myself. We all decided to cover our ears while recording so that we could concentrate on our own thoughts and not be distracted by what your neighbours were saying.

While recording I became more and more puzzled as you all seemed to be choosing to say what you liked about what we’d been doing together that day. Miss White and I had talked with you for a long time beforehand to encourage you to say whatever you wanted – to say anything at  all. The only thing we did remind you of was that our diary not a secret one but online and that anyone can read it. Miss White and I has been so careful not to give you any examples in case we’d influence what you might say.

But it has just dawned on me P2 ! I’ve just been listening through the recording to put it up on line and I am now quite sure I must have actually used the words “just say whatever you like P2” – oh how short sighted of me ! But quite funny on looking back, that with these few words I achieved exactly the opposite to what I’d intended and limited your thinking and your response.

So apologies P2, I’m always learning and if you want we can try this way of doing your diary entry for another week.

See you soon then,
Ann
