Real visit with fruit banquet

We had decided to arrange a real visit for the final session, which turned out to be great fun for all of us.

The children brought in their own fruits and vegetables and I managed to find some more unusual fruits. First we talked about where the fruits and vegetables had come from – were they locally grown or imported. We found out that no one had tasted a fresh apricot, so we were very excited to see it.

As a first practical task I asked the children to take a fruit or a vegetable and to hold it their lap so that they could not see it! Beautiful drawings were made using pencil and charcoal, of the fruit, relying on their sense of touch. These were set aside so we could prepare to cut the fruit in half to see what was inside….

The fruits were laid out on the table like a banquet!

We looked at the fruit with our eyes and through magnifying glasses – we just wanted to eat all these lovely fruits up!
