Lesson 1
Getting to know each other
The children were so excited about our first session with Lisa. We wrote in our books a simple little introduction for Lisa, a sentence about something we like. The children loved using the camera and speaking with Lisa.
The senses
Lisa and I planned to start with the sense of touch. The children have briefly explored the sense of touch in preparation for our lessons with Lisa. We explore our hands and then walk outside to explore touch in our natural environment. Lisa went on a parallel sensory walk. The children loved the idea of us all going for a walk but at opposite ends of the country. Lisa is in Studio 4, in the Firkin Crane building, Cork City. We are in Aughnacloy. The children loved viewing Lisa’s photographs of the outside of the building, where her studio is.
Going outside
We shared with Lisa what we found on returning indoors. We share our findings with great enthusiasm and excitement. The highlight of this new online adventure? We make leaf tattoos on our hands. The children loved the printing of the leaf’s vein patterns on their hands using soft colourful pastels.
The Leaf Dance
The highlight of our journey today. We are dressed in our leaf costumes and create a sequence of movement (through the hands) based on some elements of the journey of a leaf. Lisa guides the children through the different movements of a leaf and we experiment with these movements showing off our colourful and detailed leaf imprints. The children have had a ball!
