5 Videos Works

P2 set out on their same short journeys to again collect only objects and materials which were within reach – the journey residue.

This time each group made a video piece about this residue and its journey within the bottle.

We were totally mesmerized by the materials and their travels through the water.

Residue – Journeys in a Bottle

In their groups, P2 again followed the same journey-paths outside in the school grounds. Each group again collected residue from their journey – only materials which were within reach, without deviating from their predetermined course.
Inside each group was assigned to a large bottle of water. They were to study closely how each separate piece of collected material travelled through the water – the journey now made by the residue.

P2 were then asked to make a memory drawing of each individual collected material and mapping carefully how it travelled through the water.

Miss White, and I, and P2 alike were all intrigued by the “happenings” within the bottles!

Residue from our Residue Drawings

Resdue-Drawings-Stage-2-a-OP2 first talked about these memory drawings, derived from our photographs of residue in the sink strainers. They were asked to add water to the drawing and move their hands over the surface, using the same kind of movements as the water going down the plug hole.

Memory Residue

Memory Residue
Small Journey Residue – Journey 3, 12/2/15
We carry out exactly the same small journeys as before being careful not venture from our predetermined paths. This time however, but every couple of steps along the journey we stop and look, listen, feel and smell.

Small Journey Residue – Journey 3, 12/2/15
“The one thing which sticks out most in my memory of all the things I experienced on Small Journey 3 was the feeling of the bared mud at my feet, the very first time I stopped. I was surprised how smooth and compacted it was, but overwhelmingly, how cold it was!” Ann

only-one-thing

One thing which stood out in my memory from Small Journey 3;
Sarah (C W) – the smell of flowers and grass.
Ethan – “a robin looking for food”
Sam – “black birds standing in a field which was far away.”
Eoin – “berries on the ground which were all “reddy”.
Lewis (T)- “The feeling of going through the weeds up to my knees”

A surprise in the post!

The following was written by Ann as she, Miss White and P2 were working together;

“No internet connection for me today – so it’s back to the good old fashioned landline!
While I wait here and there I type up what is happening …

Miss White repeats what I’m saying to P2 as the speaker just doesn’t carry round the whole classroom and I can hear bits and pieces in reply from P2, with Miss White relaying here as well. So I have to consider my words carefully and we focus on doing today rather than our usual emphasis on dialogue.
We remind ourselves of our project word – residue. Lola describes it as “a stain” and Sam “when people use stuff and there’s something left over” – wonderful definitions P2.
I describe what I’m looking at over the phone, the different marks, colours and textures made on paper by P2, attributed to the likes of brown moss, green moss, a big stone, a yellow stone, pink wool, a red berry, blue paper, a long stick, mud, dirt … (Miss White posted me P2s’ work so I could photograph it and return of course!) They really are wonderful Small Journey Residue drawings P2.
P2 remembered going on their small journey, collecting small objects and then as Lewis (Thom) described “rubbing” each on the paper, leaving residue.
I had posted P2 a mystery parcel. Residue from an activity I have been involved in Monday and Tuesday past this week. Miss White described the buzz in the class room as they investigate the parcel. I ask “What have I been doing to leave this residue?” Faith says “it’s left over food” and Ellie says “ You have been eating and cooking.”
We go about recording the residue from the content of the parcel – residue of residue!
