Camera work

Using the virtual programme sharing I had the chance to review some of the children’s images  from when they took the cameras home and wanted to spend some time working with them on techniques so that they felt in control of the story that they were telling. So this week we looked at composition, focus and framing. We used some basic geometric shapes starting with 2-D objects and then moving on to 3-D objects. There was individual work as well as group work and the class was really excited to work with the cameras again. We thought again about how the camera sees differently to the eye. The levels of concentration were really amazing. Each group had several chances to practice uploading images and they got used to the idea of creating folders and organising their work. It was a really absorbing session. The idea is to develop an awareness of form and colour and composition that can then be applied to the work with precious objects. I think that it would be good to look at backgrounds and perhaps lighting next week and then work with objects again.
