The Beginning of a new Art Cycle

Today, Ann came to our school  as this was the start of a new project.  She came with her usual gadgets as well as unusual rocks, shells, stones, leaves, fossils and lava rock.   We had no idea what some of the objects were.  They were very rare and from places we haven’t been to.   (Hopefully we will be able to go to these places some day soon!)DSCF7269 for journalDSCF7257 for journalFirstly we looked at all the objects  in complete silence.  We were allowed to touch them but not lift them or move them.  Then we had to try and draw them from memory.  We found this tricky. After this we drew them again by looking at them really closely.  This time we used view finders to pick out something from the objects.  We had to fill our page.DSCF7264 for journal

We haven’t painted in our projects for a while so we were really excited when we found out we were going to paint pictures.  We drew a different object and then painted it.  Ann showed us how to mix paint, how to dab off excess paint, how to blend colours together, how to move paint and how to create texture in our painting.

We also experimented with pen and wash.   We  used the pens to draw on top of water and we also shaded by bleeding the pen by adding water on top.DSCF7282 for journal

Today we had lots of time to discuss with each other and also with Ann.  We talked about the human life cycle and the stages of life.  We read a piece of text by William Shakespeare called The Seven Stages of Life.  We were able to pick out the different stages of life, which we had been talking about in class.DSCF7261 for journal

At the end of the day we had to review our session by giving an ‘Exit Word’ we find this difficult so hopefully it will get easier as the weeks go on!!
