Shards

This week our theme under investigation changed. Having explored extreme weather and destruction for the past weeks our new theme takes us back in history to the Romans. Thinking about how ancient history is constructed ceramic is at the centre and in particular the pottery shard. At the start of the session the teacher smashed several ceramic pots and the shards were shared between the children. The shards were used to paint narratives developed by the children which will then be glued back together, so the re-assembled pots will tell many stories. My work in the studio used a found large shard from the garden which I painted using a roman themed image.
