Things I heard and saw, did….

Bethany – I saw a cow

Daniel – We were talking about the cow, was it dead or alive?

Euan – We drew our thumbs with pencils, chalk, oil pastels and biro.

Courtney – We looked at dried up lava.

Beth – I noticed that the lava was quite light.

Patrick – We were able to smudge our chalk to make it lighter.

Sam – I think about the cow from last week and the colours of its skin.

Leandra – Some of the materials we used last week were easier to use than others.

Observation of Life

Today we began our session with a discussion about last week.  This is a good way for us to remember exactly what we did and we can also use it as inspiration for the session ahead.DSCF7261 for journal DSCF7244 for journal DSCF7244 for journal

Euan: Drawing rocks from memory.

Rachel: Feeling our pulse

Daniel: To give an exit word

Elena: Pen and wash.

Elena: Find words from the passage written by William Shakespeare.

Emma: Had to work out what shells belonged to.

Sarah: Painting and drawing rocks and shells.

Beth: Mixing paint

Sam: We looked at things to see if they were alive.

Courtney: Fossils.

Nicole: I saw the fossils online.

William: I saw the lava rock.  I thought we were going to be painting. I was right!

Emily: I liked the colour and wash watercolour. I was painting grass, new grass.

Euan:  I was doing my final piece on the thing I found outside. It’s like a…. a branch with nuts on it.

Exit words for today.

The Beginning of a new Art Cycle

Today, Ann came to our school  as this was the start of a new project.  She came with her usual gadgets as well as unusual rocks, shells, stones, leaves, fossils and lava rock.   We had no idea what some of the objects were.  They were very rare and from places we haven’t been to.   (Hopefully we will be able to go to these places some day soon!)DSCF7269 for journalDSCF7257 for journalFirstly we looked at all the objects  in complete silence.  We were allowed to touch them but not lift them or move them.  Then we had to try and draw them from memory.  We found this tricky. DSCF7244 for journal

After this we drew them again by looking at them really closely.  This time we used view finders to pick out something from the objects.  We had to fill our page.DSCF7264 for journal

We haven’t painted in our projects for a while so we were really excited when we found out we were going to paint pictures.  We drew a different object and then painted it.  Ann showed us how to mix paint, how to dab off excess paint, how to blend colours together, how to move paint and how to create texture in our painting.

We also experimented with pen and wash.   We  used the pens to draw on top of water and we also shaded by bleeding the pen by adding water on top.DSCF7282 for journal

Today we had lots of time to discuss with each other and also with Ann.  We talked about the human life cycle and the stages of life.  We read a piece of text by William Shakespeare called The Seven Stages of Life.  We were able to pick out the different stages of life, which we had been talking about in class.DSCF7261 for journal

At the end of the day we had to review our session by giving an ‘Exit Word’ we find this difficult so hopefully it will get easier as the weeks go on!!

What we thought so far.

My picture had a lot of light today.

My picture was much brighter today.

My picture was much better today.

I used Tanya as a tripod to steady myself so my picture would be better.

What changed??

There was a car in my picture!

My picture had longer branches.

My picture had a bit of Mrs Wilson in it!

There was only 1 person wearing a hat.
